3105 101st SW Edmonton, AB and 3126 Ewing Trail SW
edmonton, ALBERTA
Hosted by the Edmonton Scottish Society, the property spans two addresses. The ESS is a pillar in the community with a mission to better promote awareness and appreciation of Scottish culture and its contribution to the Canadian society. Not only a host for the Highland Gathering, the ESS boasts a healthy and vibrant football club!
This year is a 2-day with a full slate of piping and drumming events on Saturday. Sunday hosts the Clan Grant MSR contest for bagpipers under the age of 18 plus a band competition. Alongside the piping and drumming, the Highland Dancing is running competitions on both Saturday and Sunday as well with the 1st Annual Wild Rose Open Championship on Sunday.
The Clan Grant Trophy was generously donated to the Edmonton Scottish Society Highland Gathering by the Clan Grant Society of Canada, with the kind facilitation of the late Dr. Raymond Grant, a prominent figure in the Edmonton Scottish community. Established with a singular purpose, the trophy was created to support the growth and celebration of piping among the next generation of young players, filling a gap that existed at the time for competitive opportunities in the U18 category. The competition format draws inspiration from the longstanding tradition of the Clan Grant Highland Games held in Nethy Bridge, Scotland, bringing a piece of that proud heritage to Edmonton.
The trophy was first introduced at the Edmonton Scottish Society Highland Games in approximately 1993 with the inaugural competition held as 'Open Under 18 MSR' with Stewart Smith (Calgary) taking the first win and the following year with the son of Raymond Grant, Andrew taking the honour the following year. Today, the Clan Grant Trophy continues to honour that founding vision: encouraging youth piping and connecting a new generation to the rich Scottish traditions that have shaped this community for decades.
